Scanning

Scanning is aggressively doing empathy, telepathy and remote viewing, all at once. If you are having trouble scanning it might be because one of those three skills aren't strong enough. Go back and practice on them.

So, what happens when I scan? When I scan someone I literally become that person. It's like a reflection of them bounced on to me. If you are hyper I will become hyper. My pulse will go up. I'll feel that energy racing through me. My mind will be active and be bouncing all over the place. But please note: you still have your own thoughts. You should still have control over yourself. I know you're probably thinking "that's great, but HOW do I do it?" Well, this is how I do it:

I always tell the person to sit back and be themselves. I don't tell them to relax because then I know what they are feeling beforehand. As for myself, I relax and get rid of any emotions and thoughts. I do this because I don't want to confuse myself with what are my feelings and thoughts and what are the feeling and thoughts of the other person. I'll either look at their name on the screen or close my eyes, depending on my mood. I reach out and touch the person I am scanning. I look for first impressions because they are usually the strongest. If for some reason I don't get anything I'll ask if you have a shield. Also note that it's not uncommon to have the same emotions as the other person.

Scanning can be used for healing. You could call this indirect healing. Indirect healing is when you're not standing in front of a person, but heal at a distance. You can heal headaches, cold and a lot of other stuff.

There are also some dangers on scanning, which mostly comprehend the ones you face when actively doing Empathy, Telepathy or Remote Viewing. But, as with any true danger in psionics, it can be overcome. Check their sections if you're still doubtful.
