i want blind demons for brunch
Note: This section mixes up the facts with a tiny bit of fandom legend.
Youko Kurama had great talent in thievery, robbery, and evil crimes in general. And, as any good criminal, he had gangs. He had gangs of thieves. Of these gangs, there was a horned youkai named Yomi. Back in the day, Yomi only had one pair of ears, his eyes weren't closed all the time, and he wasn't exactly what you'd call modest. Yomi was lively, brash, and impulsive- your basic boy in puberty. He and Youko were part of a team, and, one day, Youko Kurama sent a demon to kill Yomi. Wait. Pause. Rewind. He sent a demon to kill Yomi? But why? This part is a bit jumbled. I'm guessing Kurama got tired with Yomi's brash actions and disobedience and decided to be rid of the horned youkai. Unfortunately, Youko's assasin wasn't able to kill Yomi- the assasin merely took out Yomi's eyes. For so long, Yomi wandered around the Makai with no idea where he was going. His once perfect eyes now bled with scarlet tears. But he would not stay blind for long. Yomi was able to grow two more pairs of ears, perfecting his sense of hearing, and learning a extremely cheesy and cliche lesson. Yomi was suddenly wise and stuff. Enma knows how, but Yomi somehow acquired one third of the Makai for himself. Yomi was no longer the stupid rascal he once was. He was powerful enough to get a third of the Makai. Enma knows why, but Yomi found enough kindness in his heart to forgive Kurama for trying to kill him, and he asked the youko to become his heir. Usually, Yomi is portrayed as a villain in fanfiction, but he really doesn't deserve it. Yomi's evil side surfaced its ugly head once again, though, when he showed Kurama that he had sought out the assasin Kurama sent after him. Yomi found the assasin and tortured him as the sad tortured one pleaded for death to come. This was the part I found strange. Yomi forgave Kurama, but he never forgave the assasin- whom was probably as innocent as any avaricious demon in the Makai. It allows us to infer than Yomi didn't want to take his anger out on Kurama. My theory is that he, like so many other demons, fell in love with the beautiful Youko Kurama. He wanted to see the youko again (and maybe even score), so he got one third of the entire Makai to impress his beloved and invited Kurama to come and share it with him. Sappy, yes, but it sure makes Yomi seem adorable, don't it? |
