the black rose means death
his roses
Kurama's original trademark of character was the one plant which he would use most often - the rose. In so many images of Kurama, you would see the rose. It could be rose petals in the background, rose thorns enveloping the scenery, or he could be holding a rose by its stem. Kurama = roses

His trademark has been duplicated by several anime characters- Kojirou from Pocket Monsters was always seen with a rose. Prince Mamoru from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon was always seen with a rose. It's a bit of a bishounen trademark, if you will.

The rose was a symbol of beauty, of elegance, and of pure bishounen madness. Yet in Kurama's hands it meant something else.

    It meant imperfection.

A rose is defined by the shape of its petals and the sharpness of its thorns. There are many kinds of roses. They take many shapes, sizes, and forms - as could Kurama. So beautiful they were, yet they were stained of deep red blood and littered with painful thorns that would gorge into your skin as you tried to touch it.

It was deadly and horrid, yet so beautiful and tempting- so luscious in its full red petals, yet so thin and rough in its green stem. Doesn't it just scream Kurama to you? He could present it to you in its dainty flower form, or he could present it to you in a thorny whip. Just as he could be so tempting and delicious looking, yet his beauty was only hiding his most obvious horny youko side just waiting to fuck you all. o.O

Creepy, yet strangely awesome. The rose was a reflection of Kurama's personality. Perfect, yet imperfect. Try saying that about Prince Mamoru.
