even imaginary people have feelings

his personality

Underneath the mask of politeness, kindness, and overall cuteness, the innocent Shuuichi Minamino was hiding a great secret. Just 16 years ago, Shuuichi's name was Youko Kurama, and he was the greatest known thief all across the Makai (demon world). All demons would shiver at the mention of his name, and Koenma would curse upon once again failing to catch the infamous fox once again.

He was well known for being able to crack any code, break any seal, and pick any lock imaginable- especially the lock of one's heart. Countless demons fell head over heels in love with him; the youko was beautiful, and we can assume that he was not a virgin. It seemed as though Youko Kurama was invincible. He was wise, carrying over one thousand years of experience.

I think he's safe to say that with all the praising rumors flying around and the countless seduced and murdered by him, Youko Kurama had a fairly large ego. Understatement, anyone? Youko knew he was beautiful, and he would flaunt it as he so desired. He was deadly. He did not live one thousand years just by avoiding bad situations. He was the greatest plant controller in all the land. His main weapon was the rose- and so did it reflect his own personality. Pleasing to the eye, yet the beauty was only hiding sharp, needly thorns.

Youko's ego is what I find most attractive about him. He'd fuck you and never mention it again. He'd wink at you and you'd be dead the next morning- after being thoroughly fucked, that is. It's a common phrase in YYH fandom: "Nothing beats the youko sex drive." When Kurama wanted something, he'd get it. No questions asked.

He was a spoiled brat, really, but that was before he died.

Approximately 15 years before Yu Yu Hakusho began, Youko Kurama was shot by a hunter and occupied the womb of a woman whose baby had not yet been born. This woman was Shiori Minamino.

Quoting the manga: "I was reborn disguised as a human, and stranded with out my powers. Without any say in the matter, I became the newly-conceived child of a married couple. All I had to do was endure that form for ten years. Then I could regain my powers and my true form. I planned to leave the couple then. I also intended to get rid of his body."

Kurama's original plan was to take his true form when he regained his powers, and then he would destroy Shuuichi's body. Notice that he says "body," but not soul. From my understanding, Kurama destroyed the original soul of Shuuichi- the poor boy couldn't even travel to the afterlife. This means there was only one soul occupying the body of Shuuichi at all times. But then something happened. Shiori saved Kurama's life more than once. She gave him a body. She gave him a home. She gave him time. She also saved his butt from falling on top of several menacingly sharp plate shards.

Kurama eventually canceled his plans to leave. He explained to Yusuke that he felt like he owed Shiori a big favor, and he also mentioned that he finally felt true attachment to another being. He truly loved Shiori. That was why Kurama never left her. I don't believe it had anything to do with him owing the woman a favor. He couldn't bear to leave.

And so he lived out his years dealing with stupid humans. I feel a bit sorry for him. Their naivete should've driven him mad. He had to hide himself- be polite, kind, and ever-smiling. His youko vanity never went away. Everyone knows Shuuichi was just as pretty as- if not, prettier than- Youko Kurama. We're not even sure if Shuuichi's a virgin. o.O

Eventually, the ever-smiling Shuuichi became a part of Kurama. Those who really know him (Hiei for instance) might complain that he acts much too fake, but Kurama won't stop smiling. The youko inside of him grew softer, yet it never went away. I bet you a shmillion bucks Shuuichi can seduce someone just as Youko could 16 years ago.
