Ryte Bytes

June, 2001 -- Volume 22, Number 6

Ryte Bytes is the monthly newsletter of the Commodore Users Group of Kansas City (CUGKC). This newsletter will usually never appear on CUGKC's website before that month's scheduled CUGKC meeting. This is in deference to actual CUGKC members. They are supposed to receive each issue hot off the presses, but due to technical difficulties, Ryte Bytes has not been mailed out for the past several months. Until these technical difficulties are resolved, the only place to read Ryte Bytes is the website. The Webmaster will strive to publish it before the 1st of the month.

To all of our dues-paying members, CUGKC apologizes for the inconvenience -- hopefully, you will bear with us until we can once again mail out
Ryte Bytes to you.

I
f you would like to join CUGKC, we would love to have you!

And now for the monthly weather, whether you want it or not, report! There will be clearing and cloudy skies for the next month with intermittent sun and/or rain mixed with hail, the type golfers like, strong to moderate winds out of the north-south gusting east or west. No matter what the weather is going to be YOU won't be able to do a thing about it - Thank God. Has anyone ever wondered why Busby on Ch 9 TV has a 98% success rate in calling the temperature? That seems a bit unreal to me. Like they say - inquiring minds don't want to know.

I should be back at the June meeting if all goes well with my next doctor's appointment and I don't see why it shouldn't. I hope to get back to work also, I'm not quite ready to retire just yet.

Leslie tells me that everyone seemed to be able to find his house OK, I guess that is a start. Have there been any other plans as to where the club could meet? It seems like the club has done a full circle in its lifetime.

Leslie did tell me that he emailed Frank Scott and he did get a response from him so he is alive and well. Leslie was inquiring to see if he knew why we can't download from the BBS with Novaterm - no one seems to have the answer or if they do they are keeping it to themselves. This should be a project for the whole club - not just one person. We don't seem to have that old spirit anymore and I don't know why, or is just me?

Since there was no change in our membership at the last meeting, our finances remain the same as last month; i.e., $174.45 in the bank account.

I hope to see you all at Leslie's home on June 6th, until then - be nice!

I still have 64s and 128s with 1541 and 1571 drives. I also have monitors and printers just sitting in my basement doing nothing. For a small price they can be in your home doing something! Call or see me at the next meeting. My phone # is 816-761-4777 and I am home most days after 4 PM.

Scribe's Scribbles

by Scott Heider / sheide1@cugkc.cjb.net

The Group meeting for May was held on Wednesday, May 2nd at the Lacy home.

Yours Truly was ill with a nasty cold, but I showed up at the meeting anyway to infect everyone. I was too delirious to take many notes, but I vaguely recall using Les' system to connect to the BBS using Novaterm 9.6. Hopefully Les picked up some knowledge (and not my cold virus!)

Finally, a reminder about the next Group meeting. See you at the Lacy home at 7:00 on Wednesday, June 6th.
