Ryte Bytes

February, 2001 -- Volume 22, Number 2

Ryte Bytes is the monthly newsletter of the Commodore Users Group of Kansas City (CUGKC). This newsletter will usually never appear on CUGKC's website before that month's scheduled CUGKC meeting. This is in deference to actual CUGKC members. They are supposed to receive each issue hot off the presses, but due to technical difficulties, Ryte Bytes has not been mailed out for the past several months. Until these technical difficulties are resolved, the only place to read Ryte Bytes is the website. The Webmaster will strive to publish it before the 1st of the month.

To all of our dues-paying members, CUGKC apologizes for the inconvenience -- hopefully, you will bear with us until we can once again mail out
Ryte Bytes to you.

I
f you would like to join CUGKC, we would love to have you!

The Trea$ury

Now that we have had our big snow and the weather has returned to a somewhat normal temperature, there is now the big Snow Removal story in our paper. My take on the situation is that the car driving people wanted the snow removed BEFORE the snow fell, it was an inconvenience for them to drive in the winter and in the snow. As for the city, there was only enough money in the budget for one snow removal. Now I am the last one to know anything about the city budget, but I know that for the last three years we have not had one good snow between them. So where did that leftover money go in those years? Did they use it for something else? Why didn't they put part or all that money in an account for when there is a hard winter with more than one or two small snow storms???

I can say that I am a bit disappointed with the attitude of the library staff at out new location. When Leslie was inquiring about the room, he asked about the use of the phone jacks in the room. He was assured that they were working and we could use them. Now, however they have changed their story and say that if they connect up the phone jacks in that room it will slow down the library's whole system! I think that is a lot of BS and coming from a library no less! This is sad, we got out of the Plaza library because the phones didn't work and they are going to tear the building down this year. I would hate to have to move again but we need the phone line to help with some demos.

Well, we had no renewals or new members at the meeting but we did have our visitor, Fuzzy, with us. Tom Moloney gave a demo of a game in which you buy and sell stock to try and amass the most money, almost like the real thing - YOU LOSE.

We need more demos. So if you have a program you use a lot please give us a demo. If there is a program you would like to see a demo of call us and let us know. These things will help us to provide some kind of program for the club.

I still have 64s and 128s with 1541 and 1571 drives. I also have monitors and printers just sitting in my basement doing nothing. For a small price they can be in your home doing something! Call or see me at the next meeting.

Scribe's Scribbles

The Group meeting for January was held on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Waldo Library. The attendance was 10 members.

Not much of note was discussed at the meeting (according to my brief notes). Our Prez did schedule a Geos SIG meeting for Sunday, January 7th at 1:00pm at his house.

Finally, a reminder about the next Group meeting. See you at the Waldo Library at 7:00 on Wednesday, February 7th.
