Ryte Bytes

January, 2001 -- Volume 22, Number 1

Ryte Bytes is the monthly newsletter of the Commodore Users Group of Kansas City (CUGKC). This newsletter will usually never appear on CUGKC's website before that month's scheduled CUGKC meeting. This is in deference to actual CUGKC members. They are supposed to receive each issue hot off the presses, but due to technical difficulties, Ryte Bytes has not been mailed out for the past several months. Until these technical difficulties are resolved, the only place to read Ryte Bytes is the website. The Webmaster will strive to publish it before the 1st of the month.

To all of our dues-paying members, CUGKC apologizes for the inconvenience -- hopefully, you will bear with us until we can once again mail out
Ryte Bytes to you.

I
f you would like to join CUGKC, we would love to have you!

The Trea$ury

Finally!! It looks like it is over! Now let the bickering and backbiting begin. We have a new President elect. LONG LIVE THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE. I am sure that politicians will try to "twik" the system in the coming years to try and eliminate the Electoral College so that popular vote will prevail. I hope not - if it isn't broke don't fix it! As the framers of our constitution envisioned, the people are so factional that they would bring down a democratic form of government. Their hopes were for a representative republic. Only the future will show if they were correct.

The December meeting continued the tradition, of GOODY time and fellowship. We had a good turnout and some very tasty homemade cookies, thanks to the Ladies! Everyone seemed to find our new digs without too much trouble.

At the December meeting we had one renewal, John and Valoris Strenge. Thanks for your continuing support of the CUGKC. Also our visitor from last month, Fuzzy, came with his Commodore 64 to get some help on setting it up and getting it running.

Since our President and Vice President were not available at the meeting, Scott Heider was selected to preside over the meeting. The order of business was to elect officers for the coming year. The officers for last year were elected by acclamation for another year.

I still have 64s and 128s with 1541 and 1571 drives. I also have monitors and printers just sitting in my basement doing nothing. For a small price they can be in your home doing something! Call or see me at the next meeting.

Scribe's Scribbles

by Scott Heider / sheide1@cugkc.cjb.net

The Group meeting for December was held on Wednesday, December 6th at the Waldo Library. The attendance was 11 members.

The sysop (yours truly) delivered some bad news: the Fidonet feed to our BBS was cut off with almost no warning. Our Fidonet provider pulled the plug on his node, and left several local BBSes in the lurch! At this date it is unknown if/when we will be able to locate another local Fidonet provider.

Elections were held for 2001 officers, and all 2000 officers were re-elected by acclamation. See the bottom of this newsletter for a list of officers.

The meeting was officially adjourned, after which the eating and drinking commenced... indeed, a happy start to the holidays!

Finally, a reminder about the next Group meeting. See you at the Waldo Library at 7:00 on Wednesday, January 3rd.
